There are many techniques that students can try to alleviate this stress and we recommend students to know how to deal with it so they can enjoy their youth!

So here are a few tips and tricks you can try to keep yourself relaxed, calm and collected!

Methods to Relax

Take a Break and Unwind

First thing first, you deserve time to relax! You have just finished your exams which are incredibly hard and is an extremely mentally taxing time. It’s time to give yourself permission to just relax and enjoy the small things. Go and binge your favourite show, play that new game you have been waiting to play, catch up with your friends, just do something that would bring you joy! Doing something like this will help take your mind off the stress and will help you relax. Remember, it is okay take some time to enjoy yourself!

Keep Active

One way to keep your mind from being anxious and stressed is by getting your heart rate raised. Whether it’s a gym session, jogging, or playing your favourite sports such as Football, Padel or whatever that you like! Elevating your heartrate through sports will help your body to release endorphins, which will help boost your mood and help your body cope and reduces stress. It is a fantastic way to relax enjoy your time as you wait for your grades.

Find The Perfect Way For You To Relax

Each person is different so make sure to try multiple different ways to relax and relieve stress. Whether playing video games or taking a long hike helps try out as many as you can!

Preparing and taking control of what you can do is one of the best methods to push through the worry and anxiety. It is all in the mindset!

Focus on What You Can Control

It is natural to worry about your results, however it won’t change them. Instead try to focus on things that you can control now. Organise things such as activities, explore new hobbies, or you can even start planning on what to do next if the results are not what you are expecting. Planning ahead for this can be effective way to beat that anxiety as you are prepared to handle the worse. Getting ready for alternative paths such as UCAS Clearing will be more effective than worrying over the results and not preparing on what to do next. Clearing is always an option which can help you find one of the many paths to success.

Talking it Out

Opening up about what’s on your mind can really help. Talk to a friend, family member, or a trusted teacher about how you’re feeling. Chances are, they’ve faced similar situations and can give you support and insight. Sharing your thoughts might make your worries feel a little easier to handle. They can also assist you with helping you plan and prepare for what to do next as mentioned above.

Try Micro-Relaxation Techniques

Meditation and longer relaxation techniques can be a very effective way to relieve stress from the body. However, not everyone has the time to set aside for these longer processes. Micro-relaxation techniques are small activities that are easily repeatable throughout the day and weeks to help lower your baseline stress a small part at a time. Here are some techniques that you can use throughout the day.

Micro-Relaxation Technique Time Needed Method
Box Breathing
1 Minute
Inhale 4 seconds -> Exhale 4 seconds -> Hold 4 seconds. Repeat.
Quick Body Scan
2 Minutes
Close your eyes; Then focus your attention from your toes to your head, relaxing each muscle as you move up the body
Eye-Level Walk
5 Minutes
Have a relaxed walk outside, get some fresh air with your eyes to the horizon (Not on your phone!). Let your vision broaden.
90-Second Shake-Out
